Estancia El Condor - San Martin lake South Patagonia multisport trip adventure
Our multisport trip starts and ends in El Calafate, after picking you up at the airport we will check into the Bed and Breakfast, go over the trip details, settle in and then have an enjoyable welcome dinner in town.
The following morning we will head out of town and start our travels to the Estancia el Condor (Condor’s Ranch). Leaving civilization behind and 300 kilometers of dirt roads ahead, we arrive at Lago San Martin and the Estancia el Condor. We will stay at a lovely ranch house that is situated very close to the lake and surrounded by vast lands. They call this part of the 40,000 hectares of the ranch, “El Casco”.
From here we can combine horseback riding with trekking depending on your personal desires.
We start our multisport adventure with a day trip to Laguna Corazon (Heart Lagoon) giving us a great view of Lago San Martin and the surrounding area.
The following day we will head out for a 4 day traverse allowing us a good taste of Patagonia lands.
The first day of the trekking and horseback riding traverse takes us along Lago San Martin until reaching an old station that was used for watching and taking care of cattle called “La Nana”. We will stay the evening here enjoying traditional Tortas Fritas (fried bread) and a dinner by the campfire.
Day 2 of the multisport traverse we will continue along the lake and visit another puesto called la Rosa, we will have lunch here and then continue up the valley, taking us along the back side of the mountains that we traversed the first days. We will set up camp at an abandoned shelter called the Altamirano.
Day 3 of the trip continues up the valley until reaching the Rio Grande (Big River). We will stay the evening in the Beech tree forest resting up for the final leg of the traverse.
The last day of the multisport traverse starts with crossing the Rio Grande, we then must follow the river down stream for a couple of kilometers before making our way up and over the foothills leaving the Rio Grande behind. We arrive at the Casco where a wonderful Argentine Asado awaits.
After a week of adventure multi-sport activities we will take the long road back to civilization and back to El Calafate.
